Police Arrest Inspector, Civilians for Armed Robbery and Extortion in Edo
The Edo State Police Command has arrested a police inspector and three civilian accomplices for allegedly engaging in acts of armed robbery, extortion, and harassment in Benin City.
The arrest followed a viral video in which a victim accused some police officers of abducting him, seizing his phone and belongings, and subjecting him to harassment. Acting on this report, the State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, ordered an immediate investigation, which led to the arrest of the suspects on August 15, 2025.
The arrested police officer has been identified as Inspector Ojo Oloruntobi. His three civilian accomplices are Charles Onah, Joseph Ohis, and Enoma Agho. They were intercepted in a silver-colored Toyota Yaris.
The Police Commissioner has condemned the act as "shameful and criminal" and has stated the command's zero-tolerance policy for corruption, abuse of office, or misconduct. He added that the suspects would face the full weight of the law, and any officer found engaging in such acts would be dismissed, arrested, and prosecuted. The public, including the victim from the viral video, is urged to come forward with any credible information to aid the investigation.
