Passing of the Emir of Zuru, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (rtd.)
The Emir of Zuru, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (retired), has passed away at the age of 81. He died in a hospital in London on Saturday night after a brief illness.
The Kebbi State Government confirmed his death through its Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Umar-Dutsinmari, who expressed profound sadness on behalf of the state. The news of the Emir's death has led to an outpouring of grief and condolences from across Nigeria, including messages from President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and other notable dignitaries.
Before his ascension to the throne, the late Emir had a distinguished career in the Nigerian Army, retiring as a Major General. A key highlight of his military service was his tenure as the military governor of Bauchi State from January 1984 to August 1985. He was crowned as the Emir of Zuru in 1995, a position he held until his death. He is survived by his four wives and seven children. The Zuru Emirate Council is expected to release details regarding his funeral arrangements.
