Katsina Kidnap Victims Escape After Airstrike on Bandit Camp
In a dramatic turn of events, at least 62 individuals who were kidnapped by armed bandits in Katsina State have escaped following a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) airstrike on their captors' hideout.

The Operation: The airstrike was conducted on Saturday evening, August 16, 2025, targeting the camp of a notorious bandit leader, Muhammadu Fulani, and his gang. The raid was part of a broader operation to counter persistent banditry in the region.
Location: The NAF raid was carried out in the Jigawa Sawai community of Danmusa Local Government Area, an area that shares a border with Zamfara State.
The Escape: The precision airstrike forced the bandits to abandon their stronghold and flee in disarray, providing a critical window for their hostages to escape en masse. The 62 captives took the opportunity to flee in different directions.
Victims' Origins: The majority of the escaped victims had been abducted during a night attack on Monday, August 11, 2025, from Sayaya village.
Aftermath and Rescue Efforts: The Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu'azu, confirmed the successful escape. He stated that 12 of the escapees are currently receiving medical attention at Matazu General Hospital, while 16 others are being held at an army forward operating base in Kaiga Malamai for debriefing and care. The state government has praised the Nigerian Air Force for its "gallant efforts" and is working to reunite the victims with their families after medical clearance.
