Free Healthcare for BARMM's Special Geographic Area
The Bangsamoro Government's Ministry of Health (MOH)
has launched a series of medical missions to provide free and essential healthcare services to residents in the Special Geographic Area (SGA) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The SGA is a unique administrative unit composed of 63 barangays (villages) that are geographically located within the province of Cotabato but are politically and administratively under the jurisdiction of the BARMM. These communities voted to join the BARMM in a 2019 plebiscite.
These medical missions are a key part of the MOH's commitment to delivering affordable, accessible, and high-quality healthcare throughout the entire Bangsamoro region. The initiative directly addresses the historic challenges that SGA residents have faced in accessing medical services. This program also aligns with proposed plans by Bangsamoro lawmakers to eventually build a general hospital within the SGA to ensure timely and readily available healthcare for its inhabitants.
