Atiku, Obi and allies unite under ADC coalition to challenge Tinubu in 2027.
Nigeria’s key opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, have unveiled the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—a coalition aimed at opposing President Tinubu’s APC in 2027 . The coalition includes ex-governors and lawmakers, reviving the spirit of 2015 opposition unity .
Interim ADC chairman David Mark presented the coalition as a bulwark against one-party rule, accusing Tinubu’s government of using state power to engineer defections from the opposition . Analysts note that fragmented opposition in 2023 failed to pose a serious challenge—ADC hopes to change that.
ADC leaders highlight urgent issues—economic hardship from subsidy removal, labour unrest, and insecurity—as key campaign platforms. They believe only a united front can sway voters frustrated by rising costs and insecurity .
Despite internal debates and factional criticism—including from voices like Kyle Ortom—ADC remains undeterred. The next few months will be defining, as the coalition formalizes structures and contest strategy ahead of 2027.
