President Tinubu has nominated former House of Representatives member Kayode Oladele to serve as acting chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), a body ensuring fair distribution of federal appointments. Oladele was sworn in on July 1, following confirmation as commissioner in February.
Oladele brings experience as former chair of the House Financial Crimes Committee and human rights advocate. As acting chairman since July 2, he is expected to strengthen regional representation and merit-based recruitment.
Observers note his appointment aligns with Tinubu’s commitment to ethnic balance and inclusivity. A federal government spokesman affirmed that Oladele's leadership reflects efforts to reform public-service equity.
As a caretaker appointee, Oladele will lead reforms and lay groundwork for permanent nomination. Monitoring groups will assess how effectively he fulfills the FCC’s constitutional mandate.
