Senegal and Malaysia Pledge to Deepen Bilateral Ties
Senegal's Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Yassine Fall, concluded her two-day official visit to Malaysia on August 12, 2025. The visit served as a reciprocal gesture following a trip by Malaysia's Foreign Minister, Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, to Senegal in May 2024.
During her time in Malaysia, Minister Fall met with Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Foreign Minister Mohamad bin Haji Hasan to discuss ways to strengthen the long-standing diplomatic relationship, which was established in 1986.
The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation across key sectors, including:
Trade and Economy: The two countries committed to boosting economic ties. In 2024, bilateral trade was valued at RM1.37 billion (approximately $293 million). The visit aimed to explore new opportunities to increase this trade volume and attract further investment.
Education, Health, and Halal Industry: The ministers highlighted these areas as having strong potential for joint development and collaboration. The halal industry was particularly identified as a promising sector for future partnership.
Regional and International Issues: The officials also exchanged views on global and regional developments, with a focus on mutual interests in the Middle East and West Africa.
The visit is a clear indication of both nations' commitment to fostering a stronger partnership, with expectations that these high-level meetings will lead to more concrete agreements in the future.
