Four Injured in Tanker Explosion on Zaria-Kaduna Expressway
A gas tanker and an empty fuel tanker collided and exploded on the Zaria-Kaduna Expressway on the morning of Monday, August 11, 2025. The incident, which occurred around 8:30 a.m. in the Dan Magaji area, caused a massive fire and a large plume of smoke, creating panic among motorists and local residents.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Zaria, the accident happened when a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker rammed into the back of the empty tanker, which had a sudden tire puncture. The impact triggered the fire, which quickly engulfed both vehicles.
The FRSC confirmed that four people were injured in the accident, including three occupants of the empty tanker and one person from the gas tanker. All four victims were hospitalized at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Shika. The FRSC also clarified that no smaller vehicles were involved and, contrary to some social media reports, no fatalities were recorded. Fire and rescue teams were dispatched to contain the blaze and manage the traffic, which was diverted to prevent further incidents.
