Olubadan-in-Council Nominates Rashidi Ladoja as 44th Olubadan
The Olubadan-in-Council, the traditional kingmakers of Ibadanland, has officially nominated former Oyo State Governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. The unanimous decision was reached during a meeting held at the Olubadan Palace following the 21-day mourning period for the late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on July 7, 2025.
Key Highlights of the Nomination:
Unanimous Decision: The nomination was moved by Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, the Balogun of Ibadanland, and seconded by the new Otun Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole. All members of the council signed the nomination to formalize their consensus.
Unique Succession System: This nomination follows Ibadanland's unique rotational succession system, which alternates between the "civilian" (Otun) and "military" (Balogun) lines. As the most senior chief in the civil line, Ladoja was the next in line to ascend the throne.
Formal Ratification: The Olubadan-in-Council will now forward Ladoja's name to the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, for official ratification. The governor's approval is the final administrative step before a date is set for the coronation ceremony, during which Ladoja will be presented with the staff of office.
A New Era of Leadership: The council has expressed confidence that Ladoja, with his extensive experience as a former governor, will bring wisdom and leadership to the throne.
