Father of Alleged Rape Victim Speaks Out Against Pastor Amos Isah
In an Online interview Date 27-July-2015 Mr. Justus Mopa Aigboka, father of 15-year-old Benedicta (name changed for privacy), has come forward to share his family's ordeal following the alleged rape of his daughter by Apostle Amos, a pastor at a local church. The incident, which Mr. Mo states occurred on May 26th, has led to an ongoing legal battle and significant distress for his family.
According to Mr. Mo, his daughter Benedicta, a dedicated member of the church's media department for five years, was allegedly lured to the church by Apostle Amos on Monday, May 26th. This was not unusual, as Benedicta frequently visited the church to assist with media-related tasks. However, on this particular day, Mr. Mo alleges that Apostle Amos took Benedicta to a newly furnished office in the church's new auditorium, where he locked the door and proceeded to rape her.
"My daughter said he locked the door and removed the key. She tried to leave but couldn't," Mr. Mo stated, recounting Benedicta's harrowing experience. "He pinned her down, covered her mouth, and raped her on the floor."
Following the alleged assault, Benedicta was reportedly threatened by Apostle Amos not to disclose the incident, being told she would die if she spoke out. He then gave her 3,000 Naira and prayed for her in the open auditorium, allegedly to confuse other church members.
The truth came to light on May 27th, Children's Day, when Benedicta's friend, Elizabeth, visited. Elizabeth, who had previously been a target of Apostle Amos's alleged inappropriate advances, warned Benedicta about the pastor. This prompted Benedicta to confide in Elizabeth about the rape. Elizabeth then informed her mother, who subsequently contacted Benedicta's mother on May 29th.
Benedicta's mother was devastated but initially kept the information from Mr. Mo due to Benedicta's fear of her father's reaction. However, Mr. Mo noticed a change in his daughter's demeanor and, after pressing his wife, learned the full extent of the alleged crime on the night of May 30th.
"I was shocked. I had dedicated my daughter to God, and this church was where I believed she was safe," Mr. Mo expressed with deep emotion.
On May 31st, Mr. Mo reported the incident to the Divisional Police in Gwagwalada. A female police officer accompanied him home to interview Benedicta, who was then taken to a specialist hospital for examination. The medical report confirmed penetration, indicating it was a first attempt, and several tests were ordered, costing Mr. Mo 21,500 Naira.
The legal process quickly became complicated. On June 1st, Benedicta received a call from the Area Command in Gwagwalada, asking her to appear to answer a "petition" against her, despite her being the victim and a minor (14 years old at the time, turning 15 on June 26th, 2025). At the Area Command, Mr. Mo and Benedicta were made to write new statements, and Mr. Mo noted that he was treated as a defendant rather than a complainant.
Apostle Amos and his lawyer eventually appeared at the Area Command. During questioning, police officers examined Apostle Amos's phone and discovered extensive, inappropriate chats between him and Benedicta dating back to January 2024, containing sexually suggestive content. The Area Commander, a woman, expressed her disappointment in the pastor and ordered his detention pending test results. However, Mr. Mo alleges that Apostle Amos was released before 9 PM that same day, suggesting "money exchanged hands."
Since then, Apostle Amos's family and church members have repeatedly attempted to settle the matter outside of court, which Mr. Mo has consistently refused. "I will not make peace over someone who has not admitted to their crime," he asserted.
Mr. Mo remains resolute in his pursuit of justice for his daughter. "This is not just about my daughter; it's about protecting other children and ensuring that justice prevails," he concluded.
The family is awaiting the results of the medical tests and continues to cooperate with legal authorities.
