Nigerian Senate and IGP Launch Probes into Aviation Incidents
The Nigerian Senate has initiated a comprehensive investigation into a series of recent aviation-related crises, while the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has ordered a separate, focused probe into a specific incident involving a prominent musician.

Senate's Investigation
Scope: The Senate is launching a full-scale probe into multiple incidents that have raised concerns about aviation safety, operational standards, passenger rights, and regulatory enforcement.
Committee in Charge: The investigation will be led by the Senate Committee on Aviation, chaired by Senator Buhari Abdulfatai.
Objective: The committee aims to engage with key stakeholders, including the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), airline operators, security agencies, and the public, to determine the root causes of the issues and recommend decisive corrective actions. The Senate has vowed to impose tough sanctions to ensure accountability and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
IGP's Probe (The Kwam 1 Incident)
The Incident: The Police probe focuses on an incident that occurred on August 5, 2025, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (popularly known as Kwam 1), was involved in an altercation while attempting to board a ValueJet flight.
The Allegation: Kwam 1 is accused of unruly conduct, specifically obstructing the safe operation of an aircraft after he reportedly refused to comply with security regulations regarding a liquid substance in a flask. A video of the musician standing in front of the aircraft as it prepared to taxi has circulated widely.
Official Petition: The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered the investigation following a formal petition from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). The NCAA alleges that Kwam 1's actions violated the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, 2023.
Next Steps: The Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, has been directed to carry out a thorough investigation. The NCAA has already suspended the licenses of the pilot and co-pilot involved in the incident pending the outcome of a full investigation and has placed Kwam 1 on a no-fly list for six months.
