President Tinubu Appoints New Governing Council Members and University Officers
President Bola Tinubu has approved new appointments for the governing councils of several federal universities and has named the pioneer principal officers for a new institution. The appointments, announced in a statement on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, are part of a broader effort to strengthen university administration.

Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State: Chisom Obih has been appointed to the governing council, filling a vacancy left by the death of a former member.
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State: Professor Ralph Akinfeleye, a well-known communications scholar, has been appointed to the governing council. He replaces Wahab Owokoniran, who was recently appointed Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Transport, Daura.
