Hazardous Materials Train Derails in Texas
A Union Pacific freight train derailed on Tuesday afternoon in Palo Pinto County, Texas, approximately two miles east of the town of Gordon. The incident, which occurred on a railroad bridge, involved at least 35 train cars.
While officials are treating the situation as a hazardous materials incident, authorities have confirmed there have been no leaks from the rail cars. No injuries or evacuations have been reported. The derailment did, however, spark small grass fires in the area, which fire officials are actively working to contain.
Union Pacific crews are on the scene with heavy equipment to begin clearing the tracks. The cause of the derailment is currently under investigation, and residents are advised to avoid the area.
