Koton-Karfe Bridge Repairs Nearing Completion After Tanker Fire
The Federal Government has confirmed that repair works on the damaged Koton-Karfe bridge on the Lokoja-Abuja road are nearing completion. The bridge, a crucial link between northern and southern Nigeria, was damaged by a fuel tanker fire.
According to Mr. Gana Patiko, the Federal Works Commissioner in Kogi, a team of engineers from the Ministry of Works is actively repairing the affected sections. The damage was caused when a recklessly driven fuel tanker lost control, crashed under the bridge, and caught fire. The resulting inferno caused significant structural damage to a portion of the bridge.
To manage traffic during the repair period, the affected lane has been closed, with all vehicles diverted to the other lane. The Commissioner appealed to motorists and commuters for patience, acknowledging the inconvenience caused.
The ongoing repair work is part of a broader commitment by the Federal Government to address infrastructure deficits and ensure the safety of key road networks.
