Federal government Issues Final Warning to 3,598 Civil Servants
The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has issued a final warning to 3,598 civil servants who failed to participate in a verification exercise that originally took place in 2021. The FCSC has ordered these employees to appear for a new re-verification exercise. Failure to do so will be interpreted as an admission of possessing a fake appointment letter and will result in immediate dismissal.
Key Details of the Exercise:
Purpose: The re-verification targets workers recruited between 2013 and 2020 as part of a government effort to identify and remove "ghost workers" and combat allegations of job racketeering. The goal is to clean up the civil service and ensure a reliable payroll.
Timeline: The exercise is scheduled to run from Monday, August 18, to Thursday, August 28, 2025. The FCSC has emphasized that no extensions will be granted, stating that some officers are "deliberately staying away to avoid detection."
Affected Ministries: The highest number of affected civil servants are in the Ministries of Information (592), Education (506), and Labour (440).
Required Documents: Officers must present both original and photocopies of specific documents, including their appointment and promotion letters, gazette of appointment, confirmation letter, staff change letter, and their July 2025 IPPIS payslip.
How to Check: The names of the affected officers have been published on the FCSC and Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation websites, as well as on notice boards in their respective ministries.
