Iya Osogbo the Oldest Woman in Yoruba Nollywood
Have you ever been to Osogbo Nigeria Nollywood? Miss Grace Owoola Oyin-Adejobi, popularly known as Iya Osogbo, is the oldest living actress in the Yoruba film industry. Born on August 23, 1930, in Osogbo, Osun State, she has spent over six decades in the acting world.
She was married to the late legendary actor, Chief Oyin Adejobi, and rose to fame long before her role in the 1999 classic, Eran Iya Osogbo, which gave her the iconic nickname.
Iya Osogbo has acted alongside legends like Orogun Adedigba, Kuye, and Kootu Ashipa, earning national and international recognition. Speaking on why she stopped acting, she said turning 90 made her reflect and slow down. She also recalled a touching moment when a fan almost hit her car just to greet her and even gifted her ₦10,000 out of love.
She expressed concern about the rising indecency in today’s Nollywood and urged young actresses to embrace decency, hard work, and the fear of God.
The loss of her fourth child and her husband remain her most painful moments, but she credits God’s mercy and a life of moderation for her long life.
