PM-KISAN Scheme: PM Modi Disburses 20th Installment to Farmers
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has disbursed the 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, providing crucial financial support to farmers across India.
Here are the key details of the disbursement and the scheme:
Disbursement Details: On August 2, 2025, Prime Minister Modi transferred approximately ₹20,500 crore to the bank accounts of over 9.7 crore eligible farmers. The funds were disbursed via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), a system designed to ensure transparency and eliminate the role of middlemen.
The PM-KISAN Scheme: Launched in February 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme is a fully funded central government initiative. It provides eligible landholding farmer families with an annual income support of ₹6,000, which is paid in three equal installments of ₹2,000 every four months.
Significance: The scheme's objective is to supplement farmers' financial needs, helping them to cover expenses for agricultural inputs and domestic requirements. The funds are particularly vital for small and marginal farmers, acting as a financial safety net during sowing and harvest seasons and reducing their dependency on informal loans.
Official Event: The official event for the disbursement was held in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, which is Prime Minister Modi's parliamentary constituency.
e-KYC Requirement: To receive the installments, farmers must complete the electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) process. The government has made this step mandatory to ensure the benefits reach the correct beneficiaries. Farmers who have not completed e-KYC will not receive the funds. The e-KYC can be completed online or at Common Service Centers (CSCs) using OTP, biometric, or face authentication.
Total Disbursement: With this 20th installment, the total amount disbursed under the PM-KISAN scheme since its inception has exceeded ₹3.90 lakh crore, demonstrating the government's continued commitment to farmer welfare and rural development.
