Tinubu to Chair In-Person ECOWAS Heads of State Meeting in Abuja
Nigeria is set to host the next ECOWAS summit in Abuja on July 15, with President Tinubu chairing the meeting.
Key agenda items include regional security cooperation, trade integration, energy pooling, and maritime safety. Ministers from all 15 member states will attend. Countries facing coups or instability—such as Niger and Mali—are expected to discuss transitional frameworks and reentry criteria.
The summit will also launch a new ECOWAS passport policy to ease cross-border movement for citizens. Observers believe the meeting could set the tone for stronger joint action on terrorism in the Sahel and Gulf of Guinea.
