FG Unveils ₦500B Plan to Revamp National Rail Infrastructure
The Ministry of Transportation unveiled a ₦500 billion railway masterplan aimed at upgrading cross-country and urban rail systems.
The plan includes high-speed tracks linking Lagos to Abuja, Lagos metro expansion, and refurbished rolling stock. Officials project a two-year timeline for the first phase.
Financing will come from a blend of public-private partnerships and concessional loans. Transportation experts welcomed the move, projecting potential GDP growth stimulation, reduced road congestion, and job creation in rail maintenance, construction, and operations.
