In Jharkhand, Tribal-centric JMM party has pushed back against RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s call for leaders to step down upon reaching 75 years—a statement seen as implicitly aimed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who turns 75 in September. JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya called out the comment as politically motivated.
Bhattacharya warned that the move smacks of opportunism, cloaked as concern over leadership renewal. JMM insists it distracts from pressing public issues like tribal land rights, unemployment, and rural distress. He suggested agenda should focus strictly on policy over optics.
The remark is the latest flashpoint in the rivalry between the BJP-aligned RSS and opposition INDIA bloc parties. Critics accuse RSS of indirectly pressuring national leadership transitions, further destabilising public trust.
JMM vows to elevate public discourse, urging meaningful debate over electoral reforms, youth participation, and policy-driven leadership, rather than symbolic age limits.
