The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled by‑elections across Nigeria for August 16, 2025.
INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmud Yakubu announced today that by‑elections will take place on August 16, 2025 to fill various federal and state legislative vacancies .
The timely scheduling is aimed at ensuring representation is restored promptly, ahead of the push toward the 2027 general elections.
In a related development, INEC has also criticised local government campaign fee demands, warning that the high costs being imposed on opposition parties threaten fair competition .
The commission has called for urgent reform to eliminate financial barriers to political participation.
