Teen Gunman Arrested After Times Square Shooting Injures Three
A shooting in New York City's Times Square has resulted in three people being wounded, with police taking a 17-year-old male suspect into custody.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, at the intersection of West 44th Street and 7th Avenue.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) reported that the shooting followed a verbal dispute between the suspect and one of the victims.
The three victims, all in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital, have non-life-threatening injuries. They are an 18-year-old woman who suffered a graze wound to the neck, a 19-year-old man who was shot in the right foot, and a 65-year-old man who was shot in the left leg.
The 17-year-old suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident, and a firearm was recovered at the scene. He has not yet been formally charged as of early Saturday morning.
This event comes just days after the NYPD Commissioner announced a record decline in gun violence for the city, with the fewest shooting incidents and victims recorded for the first seven months of the year.
