Nigerian Nurses & Midwives Union rejects Minister’s statement; strike continues.
The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has firmly insisted that its nationwide warning strike is still ongoing, directly contradicting claims by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare that the strike had been suspended.
In a statement released shortly after the minister’s announcement, the union’s spokesman reaffirmed that the strike remains active as no binding agreement has been reached. They emphasized that union leadership was not consulted before the government declared the action over.
The strike has significantly affected public health facilities nationwide, with critical services disrupted in major hospitals. Nurses cite unresolved demands over wages, allowances, and working conditions. Government sources suggest negotiations are ongoing, but union trust has been eroded by contradictory public statements.
