Fatal Crash on Lagos Bridge Kills Tricycle Operator, Injures Two
A commercial tricycle operator was killed and two passengers were seriously injured in a head-on collision with a Toyota Venza on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. The crash occurred on Egbe Bridge, inward Ikotun, Lagos.

Vehicles Involved: A Toyota Venza with registration number GWA 659 RD and a commercial tricycle, commonly known as a "Marwa," with registration number EPE 245 QM.
Cause of the Crash: The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that the driver of the Toyota Venza, traveling from the Ejigbo axis, was attempting to overtake another vehicle on the bridge. In the process, the car swerved and collided with the oncoming tricycle.
Casualties: The tricycle operator died instantly at the scene. The two passengers—a man and a woman—sustained multiple fractures and other serious injuries.
Emergency Response: LASTMA officials, who arrived promptly at the scene, rescued the injured passengers from the wreckage. They were then handed over to the police from the Ikotun Division, who transported them to the General Hospital, Isolo, for urgent medical treatment.
Driver's Status: The driver of the Toyota Venza fled the scene immediately after the crash. Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend him for reckless driving and abandoning the victims.
Official Statement: The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a quick recovery. He also used the incident as a warning, emphasizing the fatal consequences of impatience and disregard for traffic laws.
