The renewed urgency follows multiple assaults on villages in Zamfara and neighbouring states, with dozens reportedly killed or abducted. Officials stated the summit aimed to devise both immediate tactics and long-term strategies for restoring civilian safety .
Governor and security chiefs emphasised the role of local intelligence, community policing, and deployment of Rapid Response Teams. Recommendations also included resourcing vigilante groups under strict regulation to avoid further escalation .
With the 2027 elections approaching, insecurity in the northwest poses a major political risk. This security meeting signals a recognition that governance credibility depends on tangible improvements in safety for citizens.
