Public Outcry Over Peller Olajengbesi's Recent Auditions: Accusations of Exploitation and Disrespect Emerge
LAGOS, NIGERIA – Prominent online personality Peller Olajengbesi (Peller) is facing a wave of criticism following a recent audition, with participants accusing him of disrespectful conduct and exploiting aspiring online streamers for content creation. Hopefuls who traveled considerable distances for what they believed was an employment opportunity have expressed profound disappointment and anger.
One participant, who traveled from Agbowa, recounted a deeply frustrating experience. "Honestly, let me not even lie. What Peller did was actually not necessary," she stated. She explained that attendees were seeking an "online streamer handle" – a pathway to employment and a career in online content. Instead, she alleges that Olajengbesi engaged in inappropriate questioning and commentary.
"You are asking us questions about our tribes. You're saying 'Efik is not a tribe.' For me, it was like, 'Efik is not a tribe?'" the participant shared, highlighting the offensive nature of the remarks. She further claimed that Olajengbesi made personal comments about her physique, saying, "He was even talking about my body that I'm big, I'm going to beat him. Like, be for real."
The overarching sentiment among participants is that their genuine aspirations for employment were allegedly leveraged for Olajengbesi's content creation. "I came there for an employment. I came there for you to interview me. And you're using me to... yes, I understand that that's what gives you bread, that's what gives you money. You're trying to make content," she conceded, but quickly added, "But like, people came there thinking that they would actually be employed, thinking that they would actually be picked, and you use them for content. That's actually not nice. It is not nice."
Participants reportedly incurred significant expenses to attend the audition, only to face what they describe as insulting behavior. "You don't know how much people spent to be there to meet you, and you are actually like trying to cause nuisance, saying things, insulting them and calling me 'Cruz'," another attendee voiced.
The aggrieved participant stressed the need for accountability. "Peller actually needs to actually apologize to us and do something about it because it was actually very appalling to see like people actually came there for you and you're coming there to just create your normal contents. Like, be for real."
