Ukraine’s parliament today approved a sweeping government restructuring led by newly appointed Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, marking the first change in the office in five years . President Zelenskiy introduced the overhaul to enhance wartime governance and boost domestic defense production.
Svyrydenko, aged 39, has been charged with increasing Ukrainian-made weapons to 50% of battlefield supplies within six months—a substantial rise from the current 40% . The reform also includes appointments of trusted figures such as Denys Shmyhal as defense minister and a new deputy PM for European integration.
In her parliamentary address, Svyrydenko emphasized swift action: "War leaves no room for delay," and pledged to use deregulation and public finance audits to support military readiness and stabilize the economy . Observers note the plan faces steep financial challenges, including an estimated $19 billion fiscal gap.
Some opposition MPs warned of excessive presidential influence over the new cabinet’s decisions. Still, analysts largely view the overhaul as a move to bolster Ukraine's long-term resilience amid ongoing fighting.
