Former U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the White House today as both leaders work to shape ongoing negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza. The visit marks a significant step in U.S.-Middle East relations, with both leaders facing scrutiny over their foreign policy records.
Trump announced that U.S. weapons shipments to Ukraine would resume immediately, following a temporary freeze that had raised alarm among NATO allies. This pivot aims to assure both European partners and pro-Ukraine constituents of his continued support for Eastern European stability.
Netanyahu, meanwhile, praised Trump’s leadership and formally nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize. He also defended Israel’s controversial relocation plan in Rafah, calling it “a humanitarian strategy.” Human rights groups and opposition leaders have called the move unethical and destabilizing.
The meeting drew protests in both Washington and Tel Aviv, especially from pro-Palestinian and liberal Jewish groups. Critics argue that Trump is using the Middle East crisis to amplify his campaign narrative as a peace broker.
