After a “very important” call, Trump and Zelensky vow to strengthen air defences amid Russian drone wave.
On July 4, U.S. President Donald Trump conducted a roughly 40‑minute call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which both leaders agreed to “work together to strengthen protection of our skies” following a surge in Russian missile and drone strikes on Kyiv.
Zelensky emphasized that the conversation was “very important and fruitful,” adding that teams from both nations will coordinate on air-defence systems, joint weapons production, and potential investment cooperation.
The call follows a massive Russian drone attack and a controversial U.S. pause in some weapons shipments to Ukraine, including air-defence interceptors—a decision that Kyiv had criticized.
Trump also reportedly conveyed disappointment in his recent call with Putin, stating bluntly that Putin “isn’t looking to stop” the war.
