APC members storm Lagos Assembly, demand chairman’s removal over LG poll mismanagement.
Scores of aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have protested at the Lagos State House of Assembly, demanding the immediate removal of Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi as party chairman over the controversial handling of the 2025 local government election primaries. Demonstrators, representing multiple local government areas, carried banners reading “Ojelabi Must Go” and “We Want Fresh Leadership” as tensions heightened at the venue.
Security was significantly bolstered around the Assembly complex to avert unrest as the protest unfolded a day after Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu officially swore in chairmen across all 57 local government and council areas. Despite the governor’s ceremony, protesters argued the primaries were marred by bias and poor organization.
Leading the charge was Falae Segun, who stated that members have exhausted all efforts to rectify the party’s discord from within: “We are exercising our constitutional right to be heard. The party has been rudderless since 2021,” Segun asserted. He condemned the perceived lack of vision and integrity within the current leadership, citing Ojelabi’s alleged mismanagement of primaries as particularly damaging.
The demonstrators have submitted a formal petition to the Lagos Assembly, urging lawmakers to take action and install a fresh leadership team to revitalize APC’s prospects in the state ahead of 2027 electoral contests. Party insiders warn that without swift reforms, internal divisions may weaken the party’s standing.
