Indonesia to Boost Garuda Fleet with 50 Boeing Jets
President Prabowo Subianto has confirmed Indonesia's commitment to acquire 50 Boeing aircraft, primarily 777s, a move set to significantly expand Garuda Indonesia's fleet and bolster its standing as the nation's flag carrier. This substantial purchase is part of a wider trade agreement forged with the United States.
The multifaceted deal extends beyond aviation, encompassing a reduction in US import tariffs on Indonesian products, dropping from 32% to 19%. In turn, Indonesia has pledged to procure a considerable volume of American goods, including $15 billion in US energy products and $4.5 billion in agricultural goods.
While the precise financial details of the aircraft acquisition and its funding mechanisms remain undisclosed, this agreement marks a significant win for Boeing in the competitive Southeast Asian market. Currently, Garuda Indonesia operates a fleet of 77 aircraft, with an ambitious goal to reach 120 aircraft by 2029.
