Emir of Gusau, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, Dies at 71
Gusau, Zamfara State – His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau and Sarkin Katsinan Gusau, passed away in the early hours of Friday, July 25, 2025, at the age of 71. The first-class traditional ruler died in an Abuja hospital after a protracted illness.
The news of his demise has plunged Gusau Emirate and the entire Zamfara State into mourning, with tributes pouring in from various leaders and citizens.
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State expressed deep sadness over the loss, describing the Emir's death as a personal one. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris Bala, Governor Lawal extolled the virtues of the late Emir, highlighting him as a supportive royal father and a capable leader dedicated to improving Zamfara State.
"I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau," the Governor stated, extending his heartfelt condolences to the Gusau Emirate, the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, and the late Emir's family. He further noted that the Emir's passing is a significant loss to Zamfara State, the Northern region, and Nigeria as a whole.
Dr. Ibrahim Bello ascended the throne as the 15th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015, following the death of his brother, Muhammad Kabiru Danbaba. He dedicated 10 years to serving his people with commitment, dedication, and a strong sense of faith. Prior to his ascension, the late Emir had a distinguished career as a civil servant, rising to the position of Permanent Secretary in the old Sokoto State and later in Zamfara State.
The funeral prayer (Salatul Janazah) for the late Emir was scheduled to be conducted at 2:30 PM today, Friday, at the Gusau Central Jumu'ah Mosque.
