The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has officially ushered in a new era of leadership, with His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone taking over as the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government. The significant handover occurred yesterday, Sunday, June 22, 2025, during the 67th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority held in Nigeria's capital, Abuja.
President Bio succeeds Nigeria's own His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who completed a impactful two-term tenure. President Tinubu, first elected in July 2023 and re-elected for a second term in 2024, now passes the mantle of regional leadership.
