New Law Mandates Funding for Primary Healthcare Centres
Minister of Health today presented the National Health Act Amendment Bill, mandating the federal, state, and local governments to allocate a fixed percentage of their budgets to primary healthcare maintenance.
The bill outlines clear standards for equipment, staffing, and pharmaceutical stocks. In her speech, the Minister noted that over 60% of rural Nigerians lack access to basic care, and the act will close that gap.
Once enacted, funding disbursement will be monitored by a new regulatory body. Industry experts note that this could drastically improve maternal and child health outcomes and reduce rural health inequality.
