Nigeria Launches AgriConnect: Smart Tech to Boost Farmers’ Productivity
Nigeria’s Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy has partnered with Huawei and MTN to launch AgriConnect, a tech initiative that equips 1,000 Ogun State farmers with mobile smart devices and AI-powered tools . Each participant joins via the Ogun State Farmers Information Management System (OGFIMS) database, accessing real-time agronomic advice, weather forecasts, financial services, and market insights directly from their mobile phones .
Communications Minister Dr. Bosun Tijani underscored the program’s alignment with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stating that tech innovation is essential for transforming Nigeria’s agriculture and meeting its goal to cultivate 500,000 hectares of farmland .
💡 Why it matters:
Empowers small-scale farmers with precision agriculture
Reduces risks from unpredictable weather and market pricing
Serves as a scalable model to drive digital inclusion in rural Nigeria.
