New Minimum Wage Debate in the National Assembly 





Nigeria's national assembly has shifted it focus from mere implementation of the previous minimum wage to a new structure of how wages are calculated in Nigeria.

In July 2024 the national minimum wage is set at 70,000 naira but due to the galloping inflation the legislative are pushing for a new amount that should be between 154,000 naira.

The legislatives are currently debating anew bill that will make it a mandatory wage to be reviewed every 5_3_4 years to match the country economy.

Law makers from several north and southeast complain that many state governors are not able to pay the 70,000 naira as minimum wage.

Their are also Consign of numbers of employees businesses should have before implementing the new wage.


 The national labor congress NLC  says if the national assembly does not show a clear review before the end of today's session they may take a full-scale industrial action from peaceful processions .
