W.H.O declares Fiji free from trachoma; ranking 26th globally 




In a recent report Trachoma has been eliminated as a public health desease in Fiji by the world health organization W.H.O making it the 26th country globally to be validated.



The declaration was made during the WHO Regional Committee for the Western Pacific at the 76th season highlighting the importance of health equity.


Tropical desease are very common in the Fiji region making trachoma the first Neglected Tropical Disease to be eliminated in the country.


The successful elimination of trachoma in Fiji is as a result of following the world health organisation safe strategy which stand for surgery, antibiotics, facial cleanliness, and environment improvement.


In 2012 the country took part in new series of programs that help in confirming that the country is ready to be validated through surveys and laboratory testing.
