A boarding school building has collapsed in Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School Ponpes Al-Khoziny in Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia

As of yesterday Friday 9 bodies were rescued making total of 14 students confirmed dead and the Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency BNPB says they are still searching for 49 people that are still missing.

The agency also confirmed that 104 people were found safe with 14 victims of the building collapse receiving medical treatment and others being discharged.

This catastrophe is been directly linked to a fatal combination of unauthorized expansion and substandard construction practice as the building was formally a two-story prayer hall undergoing an unauthorized expansion to add two more floors making a total of four stories.

The tragedy is intensified by the distress of the students' families with some parents saying that they had previously voiced concerns and protested against the seemingly weak quality of the construction in the school showing concerns that were tragically ignored by the school management leading up to the disaster.

Authorities in Indonesia described the situation as very unpleasant and condole with families and relatives of the victims.

Many relatives are anxiously waiting near the site and hospitals, desperately waiting for news of their loved ones.
