Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy sentence to La Santé prison in Paris
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was sentence for criminal conspiracy in a scheme to obtain campaign funds from the late president muammar Gaddafi of Libya in other to succeed in his 2007 election bid.
Sarkozy agreement with the then Libya leader in the year 2005 was labeled as act of corruption inconceivable, unheard of, and indecent by the prosecutor.
The former president was found guilty of conspiracy alongside close aides that results in the misuse of Libyan public funds and illegal election financing, the judge sentence him to give years in prison which starts immediately.
The decision was justified by the judge stating the seriousness of his offense which leads to causing disruption to public order, despite his legal teams effort for his immediate release,he must remain in custody for more than a month for their appeals to be considered.
The former French head of state Sarkozy will be the first post-World War II era ex president to be imprisoned.
He is admitted at the La Santé prison in Paris because of his status and security reasons, and in a VIP section containing a well kept 9 square meter space, a private toilet, and a shower for the time being.
