ASUU and NLC Strategic NEC Meeting to determine next step
A strategic National Executive Council meeting NEC is taking place today by The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities ASUU and the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC to evaluate the achievement of their two week ongoing warning strike progress.
The strike started since the 13 of October which the both association claims to be total and comprehensive, they also noted that the talk between them and the government team lead by Alhaji yahaya Ahmed with progress offers that are seen as progress and are been recorded.
The recorded progress are Arrears of promotions, Release of third-party deductions, Mainstreaming of Earned Academic Allowance, Resolution of the issue of the confiscation of University of Abuja UNIABUJA land, despite the progress members of some universities like Nsukka, UNIABUJA have voted in support for the continuation of the strike stating that the offers are still insufficient.
During today's NEC meaning between the organizations it will be decided whether to end the strike or to push forward, the NLC has already declared it full solidarity to the ASUU, also a four week ultimatum was given to the federal government by the NLC to round up all negotiations or all workers and unions in the country will meet to take a nation wide action.
In the NLC four week ultimatum demands are all demands of the tertiary education sector which are Sustainable funding for universities and revitalization efforts, Settlement of outstanding promotion and salary arrears, Condemnation of No-Work-No Pay, Full implementation of the 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement, Payment of outstanding withheld salaries.
