Russian drone reportedly breached Romanian airspace




A Russian drone is reportedly cross Romanian airspace during a attack on Ukrainian infrastructure on Saturday September 13, the drone incursion was detected by Romanian ministry of national defense.


Two F-16 fighter jets were send to track the drone and tracked until it disappeared from radar near the Romanian village of Chilia Veche, the drone was was reportedly to go as far as 10 kilometers in to  Romanian territory and in NATO airspace for around 50 minutes.


The Romanian Ministry stated that the drone did not fly over residential areas and did not pose threat to civilians but search team were sent to search for any parts of the drone debris.


This year Romania's parliament passed a law that will allow it military to shoot down drones that cross into its territory since the start of the conflict between the two countries as Russia has increased its attacks on Ukrainian ports close to the Romanian border.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a social media post describes the incident as obvious expansion of the war by Russia claiming that the Russian military knows exactly where their drones are heading to, he also call for higher sanctions on Russia.

Several NATO countries including Germany and Sweden, have condemned the violation of airspace and expressed solidarity with Romania.
