Manhunt Underway for Escaped Inmates in Keffi
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has launched a manhunt for 16 inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Keffi, Nasarawa State, in the early hours of Tuesday. The inmates reportedly breached the facility's security and attacked personnel on duty.
During the escape, five correctional officers sustained injuries, with two reported to be in serious condition and currently receiving medical attention. Following a swift response by security agencies, seven of the escaped inmates have been recaptured and returned to custody. A collaborative manhunt with other security agencies is ongoing to apprehend the remaining nine escapees.
The Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, has visited the facility and ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident. He stated that any staff found to be complicit in the security breach would face severe disciplinary action. The NCoS has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or sightings of the escapees to the nearest security formation.
