The Bank of Central African States (BEAC) has launched a new mobile application, "BEAC NG2020," to help the public and financial professionals identify counterfeit banknotes. This free app, available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, focuses specifically on the security features of the BEAC's "Type 2020" series banknotes.

The application serves as a comprehensive guide, detailing multiple ways to authenticate banknotes. It walks users through various methods to check for security features:
Visual Inspection: The app provides illustrations of features visible to the naked eye, such as watermarks, incomplete motifs that align when held up to the light, serial numbers, and security threads. This allows users to compare a physical banknote against the app's detailed examples.
Tactile Verification: The app highlights tactile features that can be felt with your fingertips. These include relief prints on the sign for the visually impaired, the CEMAC logo, and the banknote's denomination.
Tilt Test: The app demonstrates how to tilt a banknote to observe dynamic security features. These include 3D motifs that change color and a dynamic security thread that appears to move.
UV Lamp Authentication: For professionals like merchants and bank tellers, the app provides a guide for using a UV lamp. It illustrates specific fluorescent features that should appear under UV light, such as a map of the CEMAC region and two-color fibers.

The BEAC stresses that counterfeiting is a major threat to both the economy and individuals.
