Wike Declares Opposition Coalition "Bound to Fail," Hails Tinubu's Achievements
In a fiery broadside against the burgeoning opposition, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike on Sunday, July 6, 2025, unequivocally declared any coalition formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections as "bound to fail." Wike's strong remarks came during the commissioning of the Arterial Road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way) and other critical infrastructure projects in Abuja, where he vehemently championed the achievements of the Tinubu administration.
The former Rivers State Governor asserted that President Tinubu's "good works" have already effectively "defeated the coalition," which reportedly includes political heavyweights like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Wike contended that the opposition's leaders are driven by self-interest rather than a genuine commitment to "rescue Nigerians," challenging them to account for their past performance when they held the reins of power. He particularly singled out members of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, stating they "never made Nigerians happy."
In a robust defense of the current administration's economic impact, Wike highlighted the impressive revenue generated by the newly rehabilitated Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. He revealed that the ₦39 billion facility has raked in over ₦700 million in just three weeks since its commissioning on June 10, 2025. This, he contrasted sharply with the previous management's reported annual remittance of only ₦50 million. Wike credited President Tinubu's decision to exempt the FCT from the Treasury Single Account for enabling this financial turnaround and fostering accelerated development.
Wike's consistent and vocal criticisms of the opposition, coupled with his staunch public support for the present government, continue to ignite significant political discourse. His political alignment, particularly his de facto alliance with the All Progressives Congress (APC) government despite not formally joining the party, adds another layer to his pronouncements.
