The “One Big Beautiful Bill” includes $4.5 trillion in tax cuts combined with steep reductions in welfare and Medicaid, and expanded funding aimed at immigration enforcement.
The legislation now moves to the House, where conservative Republicans have threatened to block it, saying the spending cuts aren’t deep enough. Trump, unveteran, is campaigning behind the package—visiting Florida’s “Alligator Alcatraz” migrant detention site while promising rollback of social programs.
In parallel, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said Trump’s tariffs are frustrating the Fed’s plans to begin interest-rate cuts . Markets have reacted cautiously, with tariffs looming on July 9 and investors awaiting U.S. jobs data.
