Nigerian Air Force Boosts Maintenance Capacity for New Aircraft Fleet
ABUJA – The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is significantly enhancing its aircraft maintenance capabilities as it prepares to take delivery of 49 new high-tech aircraft by the end of next year. This strategic move aims to drastically improve the serviceability rate of its current fleet, which stands at 72%, with an ambitious target of reaching 100%.
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, underscored the vital role of a robust maintenance culture in achieving high serviceability rates, which are essential for effective air operations. Speaking at a recent conference on aircraft engineering in Abuja, Abubakar stressed the need for advanced, innovative, and data-driven maintenance practices to ensure optimal performance across all platforms.
The NAF has already acquired 15 new aircraft in the past two years and is gearing up for the substantial addition of 49 more. These sophisticated platforms demand specialized maintenance activities to operate effectively. This initiative is crucial for the NAF's ongoing operations to counter threats to national security, allowing the service to gain greater control over its operational readiness and future.
