House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas urges Nigerian youth to take action and lead in governance.
In Abuja today, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas launched the Take Action Campaign (TAC) under the theme “Awakening a Generation: Youthful Leadership for a New Nigeria.” Addressing the nation via the Youth in Parliament Forum, he urged young Nigerians to move beyond rhetoric and foster political leadership through structured participation.
Despite comprising more than 60% of Nigeria’s population, many youth remain disengaged from formal policymaking. Abbas highlighted successes like Ibrahim Mohammed, elected at age 26, and pushed for legislation reserving seats for women and broader youth inclusion. “We need ideas and action—not just complaints from behind screens,” he declared.
The Speaker stressed that legislative frameworks such as the Not Too Young to Run Act are paving new pathways—yet called for continuous civic education, mentorship, and policy monitoring by young citizens. He warned that apathy is self‑defeating, urging youth to claim their space now.
Civil society groups applauded the initiative, seeing TAC as a timely catalyst ahead of the 2027 general elections. If effective, it could redefine political recruitment and give Nigeria’s under‑35 demographic real influence in governance and policy formation.
