The Nigerian Senate has dismissed media speculation about tensions between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, insisting the chamber remains united and functional.
In an official communication, the Senate leadership reaffirmed its commitment to collective governance and denied any disruptions. They emphasized that internal disagreements are normal in parliamentary systems but asserted such disagreements are being professionally managed without impacting legislative business.
Rumours of discord had gained traction following public allegations by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti‑Uduaghan, accusing Akpabio of sexual harassment—a claim he has denied, and which Senate leadership said is not tied to her suspension for procedural infractions.
According to the Senate’s statement, operations continue without interruption, with key bills, including those related to national debt oversight and electoral reform, progressing on schedule. The leadership reiterated that the chamber's cohesion is strong ahead of critical legislative duties.
Political analysts suggest that the Senate’s swift denial aims to head off potential factional splits as Nigeria inches closer to the 2027 election cycle.
