Super Falcons soar past Black Queens to secure AFCON 2025 ticket
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have officially booked their place in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after defeating Ghana 3–1 on aggregate in a tense two-legged qualifier. The second leg played at the Moshood Abiola Stadium saw a spirited Nigerian side dominate possession and create several scoring chances.
Asisat Oshoala led the attack with a clinical goal in the 52nd minute, while Rasheedat Ajibade controlled the midfield with elegance and precision. The Nigerian defense held firm against the late charge by Ghana’s Black Queens, sealing the win comfortably.
Coach Randy Waldrum praised the team’s resilience and commitment, saying, “This group is full of pride and fire—they’ve made Nigeria proud again.” He also confirmed that preparation for the tournament would begin immediately.
Fans and analysts believe the Super Falcons are now firm contenders to reclaim the AFCON title, especially after the encouraging showing at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
