ADC interim chairman and ex-Senate President David Mark emphasized that the coalition aims to “stop Nigeria from becoming a one‑party state,” citing concerns that the APC is abusing state resources to coax opposition lawmakers to defect . While Tinubu rejects these accusations, recent defections appear to validate fears of eroding democratic competition.
Analysts argue the timing is strategic: Nigeria grapples with economic instability triggered by subsidy removal and currency devaluation, alongside persistent security crises. A united opposition under ADC could be positioned to capitalize on public discontent . Political expert Cheta Nwanze says only a cohesive front stands a chance of unseating the incumbent in 2027.
